Dealers must tell you important things about a vehicle
BC law says that before you buy, you have the right to know important things about a vehicle. The law requires a dealer to take reasonable steps to learn about the history of a vehicle and about its condition.
The dealer must tell you about any important information they discover about the vehicle before you buy it. A dealer cannot misrepresent a fact about a vehicle. For example, if the dealer learns the vehicle was rebuilt from salvage, they must tell you that.
Dealers must only sell vehicles that meet legal standards. A dealer’s silence on the condition of a vehicle is the same as saying it meets those standards. For example, if a dealer does not declare any manufacturer’s recall, you can assume there are none.
Dealers may have to stand behind the quality of the vehicles they sell. The VSA does not have authority to deal with consumer product quality issues. For advice about product quality issues, talk to a lawyer.
